Not to be outdone by Cotswold, Field and Trek are taking 20% off all tents, sleeping bags, and large packs (> 50L).
In addition to these discounts, you can get free delivery when spending more than £75. In our opinion this is a very smart move - one of the main disadvantages of online shopping is that nasty delivery charge. For example, Cave and Crag charge a huge £7.50 premium on heavier orders. Let the price war begin... |

Cotswold Outdoor - 15% off - Friday, October 14, 2005
|
In preparation for the winter boom (online retails sales approximately double between November and January), Cotswold Outdoor have introduced a new deal offering 15% off almost everything if you spend over £50 (sale goods and low markup items such as GPS systems, maps and books are excluded). In addition to this, you will also receive £5 off your next order. If you were planning to purchase any big ticket items this winter, Cotswold's offer could save you some money. However, remember to check out the competition - as always Gearzone are serving up some good offers on individual products.
Traditionally Cotswold have favoured good service over low prices, an indication of how competitive the outdoor sector is becoming. |
Goatfell Murder Revisited - Tuesday, October 11, 2005
|
For those lovers of the Isle of Arran, the Scotsman are currently running a good article detailing the age-old 'myth' of the Goatfell murder.
"More than a century after the Scotsman, John Laurie, was convicted of killing Edwin Rose on the isle of Arran's Goatfell peak in July 1889, a deadly serious controversy still surrounds a case of "murder in the mountains", a violent death and possible miscarriage of justice that still haunts Scottish hillwalkers to this day." One thing caught my eye: "Rose's decomposed body was found hidden in a howff, or hut built of rock, on a remote mountainside near Arran's main town of Brodick, three weeks after he had left London for a week's summer holiday on Scotland's west-coast islands." What I would like to know is where that howff is/was. I've never heard any mention of howffs near Goatfell (except maybe the slabs at the foot of Cir Mhor). If anyone knows, please get in touch. |
Winter Gloves Uploaded -
|
Just uploaded around 50 pairs of gloves for the new winter season.
A few highlights are: The bizarrely named Sticky Windy gloves from Extremeties. These have been around for a while but offer good value wind protection. A great new high-end range from North Face designed to make us all invest in a pair of gloves far too highly specified for our local hills. Fear not - they will be just the ticket for next years' Denali trip... Finally, for those unlucky enough to be born with circulation which packs it in when temperatures fall below 10 degrees (me), there are the new Heatcell Mitts from Berghaus. I love the concept but the price combined with the "big girls blouse" factor may just put people off. |
