The North Face Base Camp Duffle- Small Reviews

General comments: I do a lot of adventure racing, fell-running and cragging so I need a good sports bag. I own a big North face base camp duffle bag, so I was already a convert to the quality approach that North Face have applied to these bomb-proof bags. Having owned several useless bags in my time, including a £9.99 bag from Argos that exploded whilst being dragged across Geneva, I just wanted something that would last me. This smaller duffle bag is ideal for everything from going to the swimming pool with the kids, to collecting pine cones for fire lighters in the forest. It gets used for everything and has swallowed stinking running kit, wet climbing ropes…you name it. Having lasted 4 years so far, and being fought over by every member of my family, it looks as if it will go on for several years yet. These should be issued to all school kids in year 1, in bright yellow, thus saving parents a great deal of money in wasted school bags and lighting them up on the walk home!!! I like the variety of carrying handles and the new daisy chain arrangement. This allows it to be tied onto our dog by the kids, who then pretend to be mule treckers much to the disgust of mutley. They also allow the bag to be lashed to trains planes and automobiles too!

Pros: Lasting well, the perfect size for everything.

Cons: Expensive.

General comments: I use my small North Face base camp duffle every workday to carry around assorted police equipment. familiarity breeds contempt and the duffle has seen plenty of abuse over the last couple of years, however saying that, the bag has withstood all of the grief. The nylon / pvc exterior is extremely tough and survives scrape after scrape. The handles are, as expected, also superb and take the strain even when the bag is overloaded. I do not use the rucksack carrying facility as I find the duffle is too small in length to carry correctly on my back. The zip and zipper are heavy duty and the ability to padlock the two zips together is welcome. The top opening allows quick access. the mesh pocket on the inside of the opening is handy, though can snag on items being removed from the main compartment. the label says hand wash only but i let my bag get into such states that a quick cold machine wash is the only appropriate way to clean it. I have washed it in such a fashion on numerous occasions and have seen no deterioration at all.

Pros: uber tough / superior build quality / carries heavy items easily

Cons: You pay for the name, but North Face base camp duffles are still the best...
