This is the 3rd version of the Berghaus Suillivan and is part of Berghaus' Extrem range. The goretex fabric is ultra-breathable and we don't know anyone who has reported moisture build-up. The Sullivan weighs approximately 0.6kg and packs down tiny considering the performance it delivers.

General comments: Make no mistake - this is a professional jacket. Not only does it look great, it has the performance to match. The short cut and high pockets make it ideal for those in the climbing industry. There is really nothing to compare. I am on my second Suillivan and love it.

General comments: bought the suillvan a year ago and it's performance has been fantastic. berghaus have made a great piece of kit with performance where it counts, no fancy extra pockets or colour panels which just add weight, just excellent build quality and breathable fabric to make an rugged lightweight mountain jacket.

General comments: Two years ago I bought the old model of the Suillivan Jacket. Since then everytime I need protection against wind and rain, the Suillivan was my first choice. It is very robust and kept me dry on several occasions. Due to missing armpit-zippers it can become a bit hot inside. The new Suillivan III is a formidable jacket, too. Robust and a bulwark against wet weather. Though I wish the price would be lower, I think it is worth the money.

General comments: Well constructed jacket with durable material. Despite this jacket is light. Breathability is excellent especially if you 'run hot'. No moisture build-up or clamminess inside jacket. Jacket fits great with an excellent hood which folds away neatly and is not a nuisance when not in use. I found the 'fish tail' a bit long but then I'm a bit on the short side myself! Excellent jacket overall which I recommend for 4-season use.

General comments: Following the untimely demise of my Paclite II Jacket I began looking for a replacement with similar features - short, light, highly breathable and robust. The last is what the paclite jacket fell down on - durability. The other drawback was its unwired hood. The Suillivan corrects these deficiencies to quite an extent - the hood is now alot better, its alot tougher and at only a realtively small gain in weight. The cut may be a little baggy for some people though and the only problem is the little poppers that hold the hood in place when folded up - they're very fiddly - especially with gloves! Improvements? Waterresistant main zip,add pit zips with water resistant zippers and a llittle bit more wire on the hood!

General comments: A very nice jacket, with a good fabric and stylish looks. I would have given the jacket 10 out of 10, but the main zip flap doesn't velcro very tight making it bulge out which not only annoys me but could let water under the flap and through the zip

General comments: I needed a gore-tex jacket for a while and spent a cosiderable time checking various types and brands out. I purchased the Sullivan in the end as it was lightweight, a small packsize and in comparison with other similar jackets from other brands, extremly good value for money. It is a basic design, few fancy features, but that doesn't mean you are getting a substandard jacket, far from it, I have several Berghaus clothing products and like them because they are simple tough and good value for money. Why should i spend an extra 40 pounds or more on an almost identical 3 layer xcr jacket with maybe an extra pocket or flahier colours when the Berghaus will cope with exactly the same conditions or more. I highly recomend this jacket and Berghaus products in general, if there good enough for Alan Hinkes, there good enough for me.

General comments: This was my first gore-tex and i used it happily for 18 months till it got stolen! Fabric is pretty good, XCR gore-tex is very very waterproof and I had no problems breathability wise, but I wouldn't say I run very hot anyway. Pretty hardwearing too, I used mine regularly for everything from walking to work to winterclimbing and no tears, no rips and no wear-patches. 2 pockets were just about accesible with a harness or rucksack on and just about took a map, so could've been better. Not a hugh fan of mesh pockets, get wet if you put wet gloves etc in them The hood was ideal too, even when used with a climbing helmet it felt good. Also liked the cut, fitted well, not too long and hood moved with head

Pros: Good fabric. Quality hood. Lightweight and faff-free. Seemed sturdy enough and imagine would last a long time, if it hadn't been stolen!

Cons: Pockets could do with being a bit bigger and higher up and maybe not meshlined, think this is changed on the more recent jackets, mine was a 2003 model I think. Zip was a bit stiff at times

General comments: This is amazing! Really amazing! This Gore-Tex XCR technology works really well, I'm not too sure of the exact science behind it, but it does the job! The Sullivan has an interesting hood technology, well there are about a million and one ways to press-tud it out of the way when you're not using it, I won't go into the full details, but it's pretty damn amazing! (Depending how easily you get exited by hoods.) The waterproof is quite a close tight fit with not loads of extra length, it fits nicely over several layers, but if you are the type of person who likes lots of length in your waterproofs I wouldn't advise it. I personally think it has ample length and covers all your base layers, yet still gives plenty of room for movement (i.e. if you are climbing or canoeing). Berghaus seem to have solved the problem I have had with passed Gore-Tex waterproofs, which is there is no pointless mesh inside the waterproof, which never seemed to have a task in life, but was there, well no worries as this superb waterproof doesn't have it! Basically, if you can afford it, this is a excellent waterproof and I'd advise you go for it! (Especially since Cotswold currently have it at a reduced price from £200 down to £120!). It packs down reasonably small in the bottom of your rucksack and then when the heavens open or the wind picks up you can stick this on and be dry and warm!

Pros: Gore-Tex XCR technology. Packs down small. Excellent waterproof.

Cons: Not overly long, not a problem unless you like long waterproofs!

General comments: I was looking for a bombproof jacket for both serious winter mountaieering and summer alpine climbing. Reconciling these two activities is difficult to accomplish as a tough jacket often equates as heavy, thereby rendering it less than ideal for the gram shaving rigours of alpinism. For me the Suillivan meets the requirements of both activities without comprimising on either. The face fabric is robust enough to stand up to thrutching my way up winter chimneys, the XRC membrane breathable enough to cope with year round use. The jacket is light enough to take along if bad weather hasn't arrived yet, but one can be reassured that you've got a solid mountain performer for when it does.

Pros: Lightweight jacket without comprimising on performance. Really good 3 way adjustable, wired peaked hood. Tough face fabric. Highly breathable Goretex XCR membrane.

Cons: This is a no frills jacket. Some may wish for an inner map pocket whilst others could desire additional venting in the form of pit zips.

General comments: I was looking for a mid priced no nonsense jacket to keep me dry and out of the worst of the wind. The Berghaus Suillivan fitted the bill exactly. The simple design means that the weight is kept down, whilst the use of XCR means that it is robust enough for the occasioanl scramble and winter mountain walking. The moisture control is brilliant, I have never suffreed excess condensation with tis jacket even on tough uphill slogs. The hood is great dus to the stiff peak and the height of the chin guard means I can shield away from the wind, there is also enough room in the hood for a climbing helmet. It is even smart enough for the occasional trip to the pub on wet evenings. If I lost this jacket tomorrow I would certainly but another one.

Pros: Simple no frills design, smart enough for the pub, great hood. Brilliant moisture control. Robust enough for most outdoor activities

Cons: Only minor fault is it's a bit noisy.

General comments: The Berghaus Suillivan Jacket is superb for the price (£120). It is excellent. the jacket is very light and is easy to store. When you get it wet it dry exstremley quickly and also is very easy to wash. I do alot of sports like motain biking and rock climbing and this coat is ideal for that sort of thing because it is water proof and wind proof and is also breathable, it is also very easy to move in, unlike others that just get in the way all the time. The only two things that i would prefer on the jacket is more pockets because it only has 2 and i would also like to have a zip inside so i am able to put a fleece in but there not that much of adeal. But i think this jacket is excellent and would recomend it .8/10

General comments: I have had Berghaus Suillivan Jacket for 5 months and it has being excellent. The value for money is fantastic. I have used mainly in the summer months, when it has kept me sweatfree and dry, however i have also used it for a bit of winter mountain walking, in the snow, where used as part of a layering system it has kept me toasty and dry. Though it is not one of the most lightest waterproofs, the extra features (ie. the wired visor) really make up for this. I have washed it a few times now with ease and it still looks as good as new. I bought mine for £200 and that was a exstremely good price but now i see there are some really great deals around on it. I have seen it for £120 and i think that is an amazing deal for a high speced alpine coat. For that price you get Gor tex XCR water proof, wind proof and breathable and also made by the ledgendey british montain make Berghaus.

Pros: high quality, alpine jacket for use from Scarfell Pike to a night in the pub.

Cons: This coat has no zip inside to attach a fleece and also would be better with some chest pockets but dont let this put you off because it is a superb coat for the price.

General comments: The Sullivan jacket has now been a favourite in the Berghaus range for a good 5 years. Its simplistic styling and features make it a popular choice for people who want no nonsense kit. I've owned the older Sullivan II with the rip stop texture fabric, and the newer smoother fabric one. The Sullivan is a serious and dependable jacket. The cut is spacious enough for some winter layers underneath, without being baggy. The cut really does protect you in the worst weather, whether it be rain, wind or snow. This jacket is also fairly light as the use of XCR means no liner is needed, so it's basically a single skin and that makes this jacket much more versatile than similar jackets. The XCR fabric is extremely durable and tough, you don't realise just how tough it feels until you've used a Paclite jacket. The jacket has an excellent hood, which stows away really well when not in use. the hood is large enough for a climbing helmet, has concealed drawcords to keep them out of your face, and is properly wired. the front of the jacket comes quite high up your face for added protection against the elements. There are two large side pockets big enough for a map each. The zip is also water proof. The pockets also feature mesh so the pockets can be opened for better ventilation during activity. This is an absolute classic jacket. It's simple, stylish but does the job so well. Impossible to get rid of!

Pros: Simple Performs brilliantly Relatively light Looks good Durable fabric throughout

Cons: None!

General comments: Bought this in January to replace my ME Drylite. It's advertised as basically a no frills jacket and that's what it is. There are advantages to this as in there is less to go wrong, less pockets and seams for water to leak in through, zips to break etc. but the disadvantages are also to do with the advantages, sometimes I want an extra pocket for a map. It has done the job pretty well although it didn't survive a day long soaking on the Isle of Mull and I got wet, and the same in the Lakes on one day. I can't decide if this is because I need to reproof it or the weather was too foul for us all, as we all had expensive waterproofs and we all got soaked! The hood isn't bad, you can fit a helmet underneath but the high peak means it can get blown down if you don't tighten it. The 2 pockets are situated at chest high so they don't interfere with a harness, they also double up as venting pockets. Remember to shut them when the rain starts! The cuffs are sturdy and can be tightened nicely. The Gore-Tex XCR fabric is very durable and I see this as a big advantage over Paclite stuff, it simply will not last as long. The jacket isn't too heavy and has a good active cut, although if you're waterproof trousers fall down and the jacket rides up you get a wet lower back and crack!

Pros: Simple, nice design, well priced (£120) for XCR fabric, good cuffs

Cons: Hasn't survived the worst the weather could throw! There could be more pockets. Hood needs to be tightened

General comments: I bought this jacket in the sale at Cotswold for £120 which seemed a bargain for a goretex XCR jacket. The jacket is fairly long in length (but not so long as it feels restrictive), has a roll down hood and a fairly slim cut. The jacket weighs about 550g (size medium) which is very light for an XCR jacket, and is probably down to the simple design (no extra pockets or faff) I've used the jacket mainly for climbing, and have found the fabric extremely tough, it looks almost new even after 6 months of fairly heavy use. The jacket had proved extremely waterproof in this time period and still beads well. I've regularly used the jacket with a helmet, and the hood only just fits over it. A larger volume hood would definitely be an improvement. I see someone else has also mentioned the velco storm flap being poor. I also echo this sentiment, and always feel that the top of the storm flap does not close properly around the collar - it could probably benefit from a press-stud for a more positive closure.

Pros: - Bomb-proof fabric - Lightweight - Good price (if you shop around) - Neat cut - Simple design

Cons: - Velcro storm flap - Low volume hood for a 'mountain' jacket - Could benefit from additional venting

General comments: I have had two berhaus sullivans, the orignal one and the sullivan two. the fist one lasted at least two years, thats good for a gore-tex jacket that took some pounding!

Pros: Brilliant breathability, even when wet, good fitting cut to the jacket, high pockets allow you to get acces even when wearing a rucksack, mesh pockets for venting options.

Cons: hood is a bit large, material used in sullivan two is not rip stop.

General comments: I bought this jacket after reading numerous reviews saying how bomb proof this jacket was. Well in my opinion bomb proof it isn't. What is is, is a fair priced, lightweight 3 season waterproof with faults. I have now had the jacket for approx. 16 months and used it in all weathers. The length of the jacket is very good both in the body and the sleeves. The sleeve closures work well and are easy to close with gloves on. The main zip is good but the flap closure is poor. Even with the guttering on the closure, water does get through because the flap velcro strips are too far apart. This lets this jacket down badly. The hood is too big for people who just hike. I assume that the hood is designed so that a climbing helmet can be worn under it. I climb little these days and therefore i have to realy draw in the side and back closures. Pulling the back closure far enough so that you can see where you are going , makes it uncomfortable on the head when used in prolonged bad weather. I find that the hood lets water in where the elastic closures enter the back of the hood. Water travels along the elastic and into the hood. On one torrential day in Scotland the hood and back of the jacket up to the shoulder seams was wet through. The pockets are adequate in size but i would not like to put anything of value in them when out on the hills. ie mobile phone, GPS etc.. For me the material is not substantial enough. You cannot get a std size map in them either.

Pros: Lightweight, price (I paid £120 for Cotswold shop) . Goretex XCR is very good. The length of the jacket is perfect.

Cons: Hood is poor and can let water in. The main zip closure flap does not secure enough against the elements. I contacted Berghaus customer services to ask if anything could be done regarding the water ingress. They were not interested.
