Used by special forces and survival experts, the Firesteel Scout will last for at least 3000 ignitions. Simply scrape the Firesteel with the striker directly onto dry tinder to start your fire with ultra hot sparks.

Light My Fire Firesteel Scout

Light My Fire Firesteel Scout Reviews

Reviewed by Clo (Nottingham) on 2010-03-06:
General comments: Definately worth carrying on of these if you're backpacking or trail camping. The scout is mid range (simply changes the amount of strikes it will last for). The army lasts longer, the mini lasts less long. Simples. Worth buying on in Blacks on the high street or in specialist outdoor stores than online though. They dont weight enough to warrant the high postage costs most places. They will light anything and work when wet. Its great news when your stove needs a match which all get wet during the hike! I feared it would self light in my rucksack - but they dont! The cord is a bit flimsy but replace it with some quality climbing rope and it'll do the job nicely. Use it with the Maya dust and you'll be able to have a camp fire wherever, whenever.

Pros: Works when wet. Lightweight.

Cons: None

General comments: I always carry this with me, it has never let me down once. I have lit barbeques, camp fires and stoves with this. I've had it for three years and it still creates a spark every strike. For tinder I have used scraped birch bark but I find cotton wool (the flammable type) works perfectly. Definately a must as it lights even when wet. I also use it to make cooking fires when fishing.

Pros: Lights everytime. Brilliant.

Cons: Replace the cord with something a little stronger.
