Marmot Sawtooth Reviews

General comments: I found this bag to be a very mixed bag in terms of good and bad points. On one hand, it was an excellently made bag, and shows no signs of real wear even after quite a bit of use, which obviously bodes well in that I now really expect the bag to last for ages. Also, the use of Marmot's X-Static tubes to keep out any cold winds from your bag, aswell as the self-locking zips, which, if you're not a still sleeper like me, you'll really appreicate as you don't wake up freezing, finding out that you've half unzipped your sleeping bag as you move around.
However, I found that one thing that was really sorely lacking in this bag was any really good water resistance, and, as with all down fabrics it doesn't perform well in the wet, losing alot of insulation. However, what i found unusual was that my bag developed an odd smell when wet, which added to the unpleasantness. I have contacted Marmot about this, and thye said that cases of this are quite rare, and are a definite anomaly.
To summarise, this is a good 3-season sleeping bag, if you're going to drier climes, it really doesn't deal well with moisture.
Pros: Excellent performance in terms of warmth and durability
Cons: Not a great pack size and the strange smell, even when the bag was only exposed to minimal amount of moisture was a definite negative on this bag.

General comments: My bag hasn't developed a strange smell when damp, so I think the first reviewer was an anomaly.
Available in XL length so I can actually fit into it, which is a novelty. It has a really well-fitting hood, good room inside and a sound functioning neck baffle and hood drawstring.
Pros: Cheaper than average for warmth and weight - great build quality,
Cons: Not the lightest, but then that's where the price tag comes in.
