This is one of Leki's most popular poles. The soft anti-shock pole makes walking easier, particularly on gradients. It has a comfortable vertical ergonomic grip with an automatic comfort strap and interchangeable basket. The middle and lower sections are anodised and it has a durable carbide non-slip tip. These poles are best used in pairs to equalise your motion and avoid stress on one side of your body. Weight 304g.

Leki Makalu Antishock Reviews
Reviewed by Jacob Davies (Oxford) on 2009-02-24:
General comments: The Leki Makalu Antishocks are good poles for all uses. Although they do not have all the features of the more expensive models available, they still generally represent great value and deliver most of what the average walker or mountaineer needs. The grips are hardwearing, but soft enough that they remain comfortable for long days walking. The hand straps are easily adjustable, and softer than the standard straps on more basic models of pole. The shaft is a 3-piece unit, which is adjusted using twist-grips. These twist-grips are my main shortcoming with the product – on one pole one of the twist-grips now spins ineffectually when turned, meaning that the pole can only be extended using one of the telescopic sections. Therefore the pole’s height range is now limited. Although this defect has not occurred on the other pole, this has happened on other Leki poles I have used. The poles are reasonably light and feel very solid in all other respects. They come with a small basket which is interchangeable. The antishock capability, although rarely noticeable, allows for slightly more comfortable descents on rocky terrain. The poles are fairly cheap and would be excellent value if it were not for the twist-grip problem. Finally the blue and gold design looks good!Comment on this review...
Pros: Relatively cheap, comfortable, tough walking poles.
Cons: One of the twist-grips was defective.
