Berghaus Cornice Long IA Jacket Reviews

General comments: I really liked this jacket. It is definitely a thoroughly reliable, sturdy hill walking jacket. the 2-ply Gore-tex augusta fabric gives is excellent breathability. I found the longer cut to be a particularly good feature, as when using it with a rucksack of any description, any 'riding up' of the jacket that occurred did not result in the wind making my back cold, a downfall of many a more expensive, but ultimately shorter jackets. Also, as far as waterproof jackets go, I actually found that this one kept me warm, while on the move, although when you stop I would obviously recommend that you add an insulating layer either inside the coat or over it. One excellent feature of the jacket, a mark of Berghaus innovative approach is the IA zip system, meaniing that you can zip a compatible Berghaus fleece into the jacket, making it waterproof and insulating.
All in all, a very reliable performer, a great addition to any gear collection if weight and pack size are not limited.
Pros: Nice, big deep mesh-lined pockets
A lined neck keeps your neck warm in quite cold conditions
Completely waterproof and windproof, a very reliable performer, my jacket has kept me dry even in very severe weather
Cons: I found the hood hard to manouevre, especially with cold hands
The jackte is quite bulky and doesn't fold down to a particularly small size either, if weight and pack size are at a premium, this is not a great choice.

General comments: I bought this jacket mainly because of the extra length, I thought it would be good for lower level hiking and general every day use like walking the dog. I have also used it for fishing where it has proved to be in its element during frequent and heavy rain.
The extra length has turned out to be a godsend when caught in heavy downpours the extra length stops your thighs and bottom getting wet. It is also great when combined with some gaiters and waterproof trousers as it leaves no part of your body exposed to the rain.
The jacket constructed from an extremely waterproof and hardwearing version of 2 Layer GORE-TEX fabric which has so far withstood all I have thrown at it, including catching it on barbed wire fences.
It also has plenty of pockets which are all mesh lined and have plenty of room in for storing gloves and other bits and bobs. The biggest being the internal map pocket which easily fits an O/S map in.
The ability to zip a fleece in is also useful for those extremely cold days.
Its not the cheapest of jackets and isn’t much use for climbing etc but that’s not what it was made for.
Pros: Extra length is just right.
Extremely hardwearing and waterproof.
Big pockets.
Lots of pockets
IA Zip
Cons: Cost,
Hood isn't the best.
Colour range is limited to either green or blue.
Quite heavy and bulky

General comments: I have now had this jacket for over 3 years and i often wear it. I love it and have been in some poor weather conditions and it has not let me down.
Over the last 6 months i have had to reproof as it was wetting out but it now is
pretty much back to narmal.
Pros: It will keep you very dry and will last you, good deep pockets and the longer length is a nice change.
I like how much you can close the hood when the rain is heavy though it could be thicker
