The North Face Mountain Pant Reviews
Reviewed by Robert Hornby (Preston UK) on 2006-10-01:
General comments: Ive had these pants for nearlly a year now and ive used them for mainly mountaineering and ice climbing and theyve held up great to everything the weathers thrown at them.
They are made out of 2-layer Gor-tex XCR which is very breathable, the only problem with the type of gor-tex used in these pants is that its really heavy and therfore if your going to wear these pants id advise just to wear a base layer and these pants with no mid layer because with a mid layer you'll just be too warm unless your going into extreme conditions.
The pants have full side zips which are great and braces which i quite like and the braces are very comfortable and dont rub when your wearing a pack which is great!
Also the pants have a back pocket, 2 pockets at waist height and a knee pocket which frankly i cant find a use for and i doubt anyone else will be able to!
But the other pockets a pretty good although i use them rarely because i think it restricts movement if you have somthing in your pockets.
Another thing that doesnt seem to be actually told about these trousers is that they do have crampon instep protection, which i was really glad about when i bought them!
The pants waist is lined with micro fleece which i good, but pointless unless you wear the pants on there own, which i dont and doubt many people would! but its a nice thing to have.
The pants also have ankle gaitors so the pants can be used for skiing and boarding too! so all in all its a pretty much do anything go anywhere pant, which i would highly recommend if you dont want to spend excesive amounts on a another type of waterproof trouser that does the same job, which is keeping you dry and this pant does that very well!
Pros: Pretty much everything, There strong, Waterproof and Comfortable what more could you want!
Cons: Abit heavy and can be movement restricting if wearing a thick mid layer or soft shell pant.
