Stormlite Super Trekker Anti-Shock Walking Pole (Pair) Reviews
Reviewed by Paul (Manchester) on 2006-04-06:
General comments: I have never been a fan of walking poles, and to be honest I don’t think I ever will be. I am fairly you and fit, so generally do not find an advantage, but maybe when I get old. My parents kindly brought me the Stormlite anti shock when I dislocated my ankle. Ironic really, but my first few time out on the hill I used them. I found the ergonomics of the handle exceptional. They were very comfortable to hold, and a full tight grip didn’t need to be maintained all the time between strides. The anti shock system I didn’t really notice, but then never using poles before I might not. The were very useful for uphill, when I shortened the length, and useful for downhill when I extended the length. This indicates that you should not buy the cheap fixed poles out there! The adjustability was very good. From 72 – 135cm. They are very light as well. A pair weights about 650g, which isn’t too bad. However they are not meant to be carried on rucksacks! I think they are an excellent item, and without doubt I would have been unable to get back on the hill as quickly without them. The extra support they give your knees and ankles makes them a worthwhile investment for people who suffer with pain in these areas.
Pros: A reasonably priced piece of kit, that is highly recommended
Cons: I have to put one bad point in! The straps for the sticks are not very comfortable, and need to be softer. When wearing a t-shirt they did rub when descending.
