A pair of short gaiters that help to keep water and scree out of your boots. The front opening Velcro flap is easy to use (even when wearing gloves). An elasticated top and bottom, a press stud securer, an adjustable under-boot webbing strap and a boot hook combine to keep the gaiter in place.

Trekmates Grasmere Ankle Gaiter

   Trekmates Grasmere Ankle Gaiter Reviews

Reviewed by Jim Knott (Leeds) on 2008-01-07:
General comments: Took a pair on a four-day trek across Harris & Lewis and was very glad I did. Nice and simple design : velcro & press-stud closure, and an elasticated top which has kept them in place with no problems (swear-word rating: zero). They come to mid-calf which is enough to keep 90% of lowland peatbog muck off your trousers (I believe that, in most situations, it is not really worth the extra weight to have knee-length gaiters - if it's that wet between your mid-calf and your knee you'll probably need overtrousers anyway. The prime concern is that they stop all the puddles/streams pouring straight into your boots). On the mountains & stony paths, they stood up to plenty of abuse across rocks with virtually no damage to the under-foot rubber straps or the ripstop fabric. Not made for wading through winter snowdrifts, but for anyone 'watching their weight' in spring/summer/autumn, well worth considering.

Pros: Only 112 grams, easy to get on & off, durable, cheap !

Cons: None that I have discovered

General comments: These are excellent. Small, light and well suited to all but the most extreme bogs. I have not used my long gaiters for some time as these seem to deal with most situations. They also seem quite durable, considering their light construction.

Pros: Light and durable

Cons: None

General comments: Bought a pair of these before some very boggy walking in the Lake District near Wast Water. First time we'd used these and were very impressed. Easy to put on, (after being adjusted to fit at home) and amazingly waterproof. Many times the bog/water/mud came above the gaiters but nothing entered the boots.

Pros: Lightweight, compact, easy to put on and perform brilliantly.

Cons: None
