General comments: I currently own a pair of Quark ice tools and have been very satisfied with their performance especially on ice. However, I was recently lent a pair of the DMM Rebel tools by my climbing partner for a two week trip to Chamonix. I do not consider myself to have small hands but unfortunately the adjustable finger rest just would not go down low enough for me to be comfortable…..those with small hands beware! Despite this I got a fair idea of their performance on multi-pitch ice routes on the Triangle Du Tacul etc… They are slightly less intuitive to use than other ‘extreme’ tools and the lower hand rest is definitely not as good as the Grivel Taakoon, or more especially the Black Diamond Viper and Quarks. Having climbed with all these tools I enjoyed the DMM Rebels the least and did not feel as secure with the entire grip set-up. The quality is undoubted, yet as the other reviewer mentioned, the paint finish is very brittle and it looks terrible as only a few outings left it chipped and scarred looking. Hopefully DMM will go back to a silver anodised finish soon. The hammer is better than the quark and taakoon for driving pitons, but not as good as the Black Diamond Viper in my opinion, it also torques well when mixed climbing.
Pros: Quality, strength of the tool,
Cons: Hand grip does not adjust enough, the paint finish is shoddy for such an expensive tool, the bottom hand rest is simply not big enough.

General comments: I bought these ice axes about half a year ago now, and so far theyve held up pretty well, The work man ship on the actual axes is the best ive seen. Which is why i chose to buy them in the first place, because they seemed pretty solid and i liked the idea of a one peice solid forged head and shaft.
The axes are weighted perfectly and are realitivly light so they wont kill your arns trying to lift them up on long climbs.
The grip is pretty good, i personally prefare it to other grips on other ice axes, but i dont think it is designed for people with small hands, because i have realtivly large hands and i still keep the axe's grip at its smallest, because if it was any bigger the lower support on the grip would be useless, but for me its pretty good because its easy to keep hold of and its very supportive.
Im not too kean on the new paint though, i wish DMM had just stuck to the silver anodised finish, because the new red paint just chips which i think isnt really that good for an axe that costs £150. But it still does the job even if it doesnt look as good as when it was new.
It is also ashame that DMM still havent brought out a T rated pick for the axe and that they still have only the B pick, which seems strong enough, but i dont really trust it on mixed routes because i have a fear of breaking the pick.
The hammer is pretty good on the axe, although because of the curvature of the shaft i have trouble swinging the hammer at anything, but you get used to it and when you do it works pretty well!
Pros: Most things about this axe are pluses because it looks cool ,feels more robust and solid than other axes and works well.
I think the grip is the biggest plus if you have hands big enough to use it properly.
Cons: The only bad points are the new paint, because it chips and just doesnt look that good and also if you have small hands the grip doesnt work properly.
