General comments: I'm really surprised to see these crampons for review on a UK website as I've only ever seen them for sale in Central Europe and I purchased mine in Chamonix two years ago. Early summary would read: Great. Specialist.
The Stubai Trek Lite Pro are amazingly light crampons. Having skied the Valley Blanche many times with an old pair of Grivel Rambo’s in my pack, the switch to alloy crampons produced a very noticeable weight saving. I use them on both Salomon alpine boots and Scarpa Denali ski mountaineering boots and the fit is great and easily resized using the simple spring pin. I also wear them on scrambling boots in the summer for walking in on glaciers prior to climbing a rock route. I’ve had no need to fit anti bailing plates as their horizontal design has resisted bailing even in warm wet snow.
The specialist side must be noted before you rush out to buy them believing you’ll be shaving grams from your climbing hardware. I am very careful when wearing them on mixed terrain as I believe they are not robust enough to withstand harsh use on rocks. I would also not use my Lite Pro’s ice climbing anything greater than Scottish grade two for fear of them bending or breaking. Treat yourself to a pair for the Haute Route but if only want one set of crampons for everything, look elsewhere.
Pros: Light weight. Quick size adjustment.
Cons: Appear fragile. Not for mixed climbing or steep ice.
