General comments: Just noticed that F&T are doing these boots for ?65 (Grrrrrrrr). I thought i got a good deal from Nevissport at ?90!!
I usually wear Meindl boots most of the year but as i get to go to scotland quite often, i needed something a little more rugged for the winter. i tried a number of pairs on (yes i did try on Manta's) but these seemed to fit better than most, and the sole is very stiff so they just felt like they can hanle anything. I was up for a winter skills course last year in Cairn Gorms so took these as they accept a step in carmpon. they is a cool little blue section under the heel, this runs the lenght of the boot and provides the stiffness needed for the step in crampons. the boot does not have a lip at the front to accept a crampon bar though.
the sole is a 'contragrip' one and gives good traction, there is a large rand which runs the length of the boot and gives good protection - this also helps protect the boot from cramon straps. the upper is a mix of leather and plastic, it does work and seems to be holding out well. the lacing gives a good overall fit and although being a 4 season boot, they didnt give my feet too much trouble 'breaking -in'.
Although these are made in China!!, they fit well and are a bargin at the current price.
Pros: stiff sole, rand and fit
Cons: made in china? (now chaeper than when i bought them)
