Storm shelters, that piece of safety gear all expeditions use. A piece of kit which is suitable for that unplanned stop over, the Vango storm shelter 1200 features taped seams and is suitable to house 12 people and their kit. The storm shelter can be used for sheltering for lunch or map reading and route planning, out of the wind.

General comments: This is the largest of a range of emergency shelters from vango. The orange shelter has been used with D of E groups as an emergency shelter and as a shelter for lunch stops in bad weather. It is intended for use with up to 12 adults, but as yet I have not had it up to its full capacity. It is quick and simple to get out of the stuff sac, yet is much harder to get back in the stuff sac, especially in the wind. The draw cord is neat, and allows the base to be pulled under with ease. I have found that the nylon fabric is not very durable; I already have several rips from stones and rocks, which have been sorted out with duct tape. It is also quite heavy for an emergency shelter, at about 1kg and with a large pack size is not ideal. I only ever carry it when I am working with large groups when it may be needed. They do make smaller models, the 200 may be more useful too the general walker.
Pros: Its very large, and it quick to get out when the weather does turn bad. Very visable
Cons: Very hard to get back in the stuff sac
