General comments: The Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR are a fantastic lightweight running shoe that have provided me with great comfort and stability whilst running over uneven terrain. I have been using Salomon shoes for the past few years and have never had any complaint, but these are the most comfortable running shoes I have used!
The Gortex lining was the main reason why I chose these shoes when I bought my first pair whilst on a shopping trip to New York (left them on top of a mountain in Wales...Hence now buying a second pair). The Gortex lining has kept my feet dry on numerous occassions, however I have only experienced rain whilst road running as opposed to off road and wet moorland!
Above all else what I appreciate most about them is the low weight! You hardly feel them on your feet (although you & others will not fail to see them due to the red colouring)!!
I cannot comment on the quality of the XA Pro 3D XCR as I only owned the model for a few months but didn't have any issues with stitching or with the soles becoming detached as has occurred with some other brands.
Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, good medial arch support and plenty of room around the first and fifth metarsal region. The soles have plenty of grip and excellent cushioning on heel strike when running.
Cons: Quite expensive and a limited variety of colours.

General comments: As a keen runner and mountain marathoner I compete and train mainly over off road terrain. Salomon is not a big running brand with a reputation for building state of the art shoes, especially when you compare it to Asics or Saucony. However, the Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR is an extremely good shoe almost exclusively aimed at a niche market of off-road runners. In the past I have tried previous Salomon shoes both in trail (walking) shoe form and running (studs) form. Although they have been comfortable, they have not proved that supportive for tough off-road running, nor have they been that durable. I was attracted to the new Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR shoes as they now have a strong plastic internal heel counter and an external reinforcement that looks like Carbon Fibre….but most likely isn’t! This adds good support when off-road. Also I have tried Gore-tex liners in Asics running shoes before and they proved uncomfortable, but these felt great on. In use, I have now run over 450 miles in the Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR shoes and they have been comfortable, kept most water out and stopped my ankle turning. True to form they aren’t lasting quite as well as some other brands but the comfort has been excellent. No real complaints.
Pros: waterproof, lightweight, great comfort and support
Cons: expensive, look very pimped up!!

General comments: These are a great pair of shoes for adventure racing on trails or undulating terrain but best to change to a dedicated pair of fell racing shoes for the really steep or muddy running. Last year I used my Salomon XA Pros for the Microsoft UK Challenge, a four day intelligent sport adventure race around West Wales. They were worn for most events every day including mountain bike orienteering and Canadian canoeing. The Salomon’s provide excellent comfort on hard metalled roads common in forestry blocks as well as coping with wet grassland on the lower hillsides. The speed lacing is very effective and surprisingly durable considering the line is so thin. I have mixed views on the effectiveness of Gore-tex in running shoes, fine if you are walking the dog in the rain or running through short wet grass as found on a golf course, but when faced with proper adventure racing conditions and a puddle or two water is bound to come over the sides! When it does, it stays in your shoe for longer than in a mess sided model. The benefit a waterproof running shoe does have is that in winter your feet stay a lot warmer when running in cold or snowy conditions. In summary a comfortable and durable shoe for trail running but not mountain marathons.
Pros: Warm feet in the winter. Comfortable on trails.
Cons: Not grippy enough for mountain marathons

General comments: These shoes are great! they are deffinatly the best trail running shoes ive ever had. The shoes have a Gore-tex XCR inner which is great because its extremly breathable, so your feet stay cool in summer but warm in winter. The whole outer shoe is water-proof, which i honestly think is kind of pointless because water can still come in over the top, but oh well. The shoes sole has exelent grip and also it is very comfortable for running over long distances with because the heal is cushioned. Also the in shoe is extremly supportive, because it has an arch support.
I also love the asymetric quick lacing system, because its just so much quicker than laces and just looks so much cooler! The shoe also has a protective toe cap to keep your toes nice and safe.
But i think salomon could have thought about the colours more because if you get red you can only really wear them while running because its that bright and the other colour is frankly horrible, so yeah i would have released a black one or somthing.
Pros: Pretty much everything! Comfortable, Waterproof, breathable what more could you want!
Cons: the colours! but thats not a big thing really

General comments: Fantastic shoes, comfortable and light.
The shoes are however very warm and after running in summer conditions I generally found my feet are too hot, however the weight is incredible for the calibre of the shoe. The sole is quite stiff, something i found excellent and the transfer of power off road is impressive.
The grip and sole of shoe is also impressive i ran recently in the mud and did not slip once something of change from my old Asics. The sole also and stiffness also suits those of us who mountain bike. As the grip and power transfer is excellent. The shoes are also very durable and have good toe protection.
Finally the shoes are narrow and the lacing system really hugs the shoe around your foot from your ankles right down to your toes. For me this is good however i would warn people with wide feet, as these are possibly not the shoes for you. In conclusion a good shoe well suited for off road running and mountain biking, very comfortable and grippy. However I wouldn’t bother with the XCR version unless you run in the ice and snow or have very cold-blooded feet.
Pros: Comfortable and light
Cons: Expensive and at times too warm

General comments: I'm just about through my first ever pair of these and i only bought them last summer. They really are a super comfy shoe and perform well particularly on wet trails. They don't give an awful lot of support when things get quite rocky but for fairly well used trails they're good to nipping up and down wet creeks and pathways. Very comfortable, lovely drawstring technology and of course absolute waterproof membrane which has worked well throughout wet conditions. easy to slip on as a camp shoe or tighten up for some fast action sport by nipping up the drawstring easily and hiding it away under the tongue flap. all round good, but expected the sole to be lasting a little better
Pros: great shoe. waterproof. feet stay nice and cool. super comfy for travel and sport.
Cons: big lads might wear the sole faster than expected.

General comments: I bought my current pair of these in May last year as I wanted a lightweight, comfortable shoe that I could use as an approach shoe for climbing and carry up the route and wear on the descent.
They are VERY comfortable & Very LIGHT, but I am now on my second pair having had the original pair replaced within 6 months as the outer fabric had begun to break down and the shoes were looking very worn. The sole was also quite worn down. I was surprised at this as I'm not a runner, so in the short period of time I had owned the shoes they had bot covered an excessive mileage. 5 months on from them being replaced, I'm considering returning them again. Why? Again the upper has a section of fabric that has broken down, the sole is excessively worn and parts of the sole have become detached.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from them, but I would expect an £85 pound pair of Adventure Racing Shoes to display a degree of durability if they're being used more like an approach shoe.
I'm less than impressed with their durability.
Functionality is excellent though, the waterproof membrane seems to work very well, maybe not as breathable as one might hope, but definitely keeps your feet dry unless the water goes over the ankle, they are really comfortable and I've never snapped a lace on the fancy lacing system (it was what I thought might be the weakest link when I first looked at them).
Pros: Comfort, weight
Cons: Durability, Price
