General comments: I bought the Meindl Magic boots to complete my set of Scarpa Charmoz (Alpine/4 season), Meindl Lhotse (rough mountain walking) and the Magic boot for local walks, mediterranean holiday excursions and dry British hills. Very comfortable and light, but they have limitations in terms of comfort for long days and (for me) on descents. Climbing up a 3800 ft Munro in them on a hot day was a pleasure but the steep descent was a painful experience as they did not support the foot enough and my toes rammed into the quite narrow toe cap area. Not recommended for anything serious like a Himalayan walk-in, hiking the Grand Canyon or Wadi-bashing on foot!
Pros: Light/smart/comfy around low hills and home
Cons: Not up to a serious day in the mountains, even if dry and hot

General comments: As my feet slipped them on I knew straight away that these Meindl boots were right for me! Having tried on several pairs of boots & found them cut too tight these immediately felt remarkably comfortable for my wide feet. As he wrapped them up the shopkeeper admitted they were also his favourite footwear.
Within a few days they had their first serious outing up Goat Fell on Arran (874m), a 7 mile round trip. After a steady climb with the boots giving secure grip on gravel, moorland & granite boulders we reached the top. We drank in the view & set off down, surprised as a snow storm swept in. The boots remained sure footed as we descended with the snow settling on the rocks. Hurrying our progress, the snow turned to continous steady rain, We quickly lost height & returned to sea level.
After the walk, the warmest, dryest part of my body was my feet. The boots had done an excellent job, supporting my feet superbly, even with the quick descent. And they were so comfortable I was happy to keep them on for the rest of the day til bed-time.
These are good-looking, light-weight boots with their mix of Cordura & leather. They are well designed, supporting the ankle without chaffing. The comfortable interior cradles & supports the foot.
After this test I can highly recommend them!
Pros: Good looking, comfortable, well-designed.
Cons: Haven't thought of anything yet!
