General comments: After powerstretch, schoeller would get my nomination for wonder fabric of the decade. I am not a huge fan of the new softshell jackets as they are hot in most circumstances. However, they excel in trousers. My first pair of schoeller trousers were made by the US company Cloudveil. They were superb and started me along the route of not taking waterproof trousers for winter climbing. I bought the Berghaus cirrus pants as they were also Schoeller, but whereas the Cloudveil pair were a woven type of schoeller, these have a fleece membrane laminated on the back of the schoeller face fabric making them excellent for colder temperatures. They aren’t as breathable as standard Schoeller extreme, and therefore they can be a bit hot on long Cairngorm walk-ins, but once climbing they keep you snug on belays and breathe well enough for the hard work of actually climbing. The main advantage of these trousers over waterproofs is the stretch and flexibility, alongside extra durability and comfort. I wore these in the Alps for a 20 pitch winter climb in a stated -23 degrees C at the Aguille de Midi station. They were fantastic and shed snow, kept the wind out and I remained a comfortable bunny.
Pros: almost waterproof, nice fleece scrim keeps the heat in. cheap for schoeller
Cons: a bit warm for scttish walk-ins

General comments: These are a very comfortable pair of trousers that has allowed me to ditch waterproof over trousers. I use them frequently from walking the dogs to climbing and scrambling. They move well, my only grumble is that they could be a little longer in the leg for when scrambling, but then again I do have long legs and they fit better than most makes.
The schoeller is excellent and really does repell the water. They are warm but not too warm for summer walking.
Pros: Comfort, water repellency, cost
Cons: Blacks the only colour available
