As conditions in the Alps don't always require the full benefits of a shell, Gore WINDSTOPPER Soft Shell provides an excellent alternative. With a DWR treatment to the face of the fabric the Pro Shield Soft Shell is ideal for all but the worst conditions. | Site | Price | Postage | Total |

General comments: I bought one of these for walking and mountain biking. I wanted something more windproof than a fleece, but more breathable than a goretex shell.
The soft material feels comfortable not clammy, even when quite wet, which is a plus if you are prone to getting sweaty. It seems to breathe well too, compared with goretex jacket. The waterproofing seems to work against light rain and water-slashes, but isn't going to stop heavy rain for long.
The long cut is great for biking, and I found it to be the perfect thing for cold, damp winter days when it wasn't actually raining, as it kept the wind chill out, but wasn't so warm that I'd overheat when going uphill. The only downside for bike use is the lack of reflective bits that bike specific gear tend to have.
When walking the jacket felt comfortable. It kept the wind out very well, but on cold days a thick fleece was needed to provide enough warmth, as the material isn't that warm in itself.
The jacket doesn't remove the need to take a waterproof jacket with you, unless you are very sure it's not going to rain, but is a good way to keep the wind off, and combined with a suitable base layer and fleece provides a good winter layering system. If you are like more energetic activities (or are a sweaty person) it's a great jacket, although for general walking it probably doesn't offer any huge advantage over a goretex shell.
Pros: Windproof
More comfortable than a gortex jacket
Very breathable
Long cut is good for a wide range of outdoor activities
Cons: Lacks warmth
Not waterproof (nor is in intended to be)
Not as versatile as a good waterproof jacket
