A new sleeping mat from Alpkit. Everyone loved the original Airic range but it was a touch on the heavy side compared to the prolite series from Thermarest. Alpkit have responded by releasing the Slim Airic, a lightweight version of their previous mats. The all important numbers: 740 grams; 180cm long; 51.5 cm wide; 3 cm thick; packs down to 52cm x 10cm. | Site | Price | Postage | Total |

General comments: Alpkit have another winner here in my eyes with the slightly slimmer, thinner and lighter vertsion of the Airic.
When compared to the equivalent thermarest for £70+, the £25 price tag is a steal and you can currently get a second for discount price if you buy 2 together. It is also supplied with a repair kit which some brands charge an extra £5 for!
The mat is self-inflating and just requires a few puffs to get it up to full thickness. It certainly feels thick enough and acts as very good insulation from the ground (I was in sub freezing temperatures in Scotland in March and was fine) as well as ironing out any uneven surfaces the tent maybe pitched on.
The full length version is ideal also for when you maybe sleeping inside but when the floor maybe damp such as in bunkhouses, bothies etc.
As ever with Alpkit the delivery is fantastic, arriving the next day, and if faults ever develop they would probably fix it with no quibbles whatsoever.
One suggestion I would add, the fabric could be slightly less 'smooth,' that way you may not slide around so much in the night - just a thought.
The mat requires a bit of practice at rolling up as sometimes pockets of air get trapped and so it doesn't compress as well. I tend to fold it in half and so it is slightly thicker but less bulky in my rucksack where it typically takes up approximately 5 litres or so.
Pros: Price, comfortable, delivery, repair kit supplied.
Cons: Maybe a little hard to roll up at first, but that's being pedantic!

General comments: What a great bit of kit, just received mine the day after ordering it. £25 with free postage, repair kit and stuff sack. I really think Alpkit are a great brand and all of their products look top notch. I just wish I'd discovered them before I purchased a Stormlite mat which broke! The mat is awesome it looks great for a start, mine is chilli red, it is very light 688g if I remember correctly. It is easy to roll up and pack small, the mat can also be folded and slid down the back of your pack. As for size, even for me (6ft3) the mat is just about the right length. So far the mat seemed to inflate quickly to a fairly high volume so you won’t get light-headed blowing it up. Comparing the airic to my sisters therarest there seems to be no difference accept for the price tag of course. I brought the slim as I wanted it for backpacking and cycle trips, so the mixture of light weight and comfort was perfect. I can't weight to get this one out and give it a full test. For £25 this mat is a bargain and I highly recommend you get yourself one.
Pros: Pricing is incredible, Quality is high, Weight is low, Looks great, The airic has a geat range of size and thicknesses.
Cons: Can't find any
