General comments: this is my third pair of salomon racing shoes. These running shoes are extremely light weight and comfortable. the sole is great; fantastic grip on all types of terrain, apart from extremely muddy hills. I use them for many activiites including adventure racing and as approach shoes, for walking into climbs. The lacing system is unique. it is strong and fast to pull tight. Even when they have been wet, I have not had any blisters. water gets in easily, but the design means that it also does not stay in the shoe, so you dont squelch around for long and they dry really quickly.
Pros: Salomon have small sizes! great for women with small feet. very lightweight, so if you have strong ankles, they are great for dry approach routes for climbing too, as they are then small and light to put in your pack when climbing
Cons: Salomon dont seem to have their sizing right. this is my third pair of XA Pros, and each pair is a different size (4,4 1/2) and this current pair is a 5. the lacing system comes up quite high so I have to force my foot into the shoe as the tongue does not have much give in it

General comments: I have been using Salomon XA Pro 3D shoes for adventure racing, mountain running and biking and think they are a great all around shoe. All in all a great shoe, expensive and you have to live with the fact that they dont last forever, but I am a convert, and they look pretty cool too.
Pros: They are so much more comfortable than other trail shoes: excellent suspension, many trail shoes are too much like fell runners, which is great in the wet, but rubbish if you have to do a real mix of terrain. These offer great padding, without the weigt of the Merrells for example. They have good ankle support without being too high, as you would expect , and the toe box offers loads of protection when you start kicking stones when you are tired.
Cons: They do wear out quickly 9-12 months seems to be the limit before the tops start fraying and there are holes in where the laces run, also you need to be really careful about sizing and take at least a full size larger then normal. I am not sure whether this is beacuse I always end up with swollen feet, or because they are just that much smaller than normal shoes. I often seem to end up with dead toe nails after downhill running, but is true of all the trail shoes I have tried, not just teh XA Pros.
