Vango Storm 300+ Tent Reviews
Reviewed by Neil McLean (Dunfermline) on 2006-03-02:
General comments: Good Value tent for the money and quick and easy to erect.
Quite lightweight for backpacking/cycling trips
Great Storage vestibules at either end
Integrated groundsheet helps keep the cold out in all but the coldest months in Scotland. Used it February to October and although not a great winter tent, sufficient if sleeping bag of high standard.
It is however prone to condensation build up on a few occasions but interior mesh prevents MOST midgies from penetrating
Pros: Storage areas
Cheap to buy
Quick to put up
Cons: Condensation build up
Can be cumbersome if not packed properly, only a problem when packing to beat the elements

General comments: Original storm 300 excellent tent for weight, just suitable for backpacking with great head room and good durability in bad conditions. new storm has slightly better porch space but extra weight makes it just a little heavy for backpacking.
Pros: Great head room in sleeping quarters and adequate porch space for size of tent. Double openings make for easier exit and entering especially at night.
Cons: Increase in weight reduces backpacking quality, Zips tend to malfunction after period of time.

General comments: As a leader of my school's Duke of Edinburgh award, we purchased 5 of these vango storm 300+ tents for our groups. So far, we are only doing the bronze award, and so have not tested the tent in high or extreme conditions, but on a campsite. The tents were shared two or three ways, depending on the numbers who would be sleeping in them, and the shared weight of the tent did not seem to be too troublesome for carrying in the sacks.
In terms of space and design, they were very quick to erect and dismantle - I managed mine in 5 minutes either way by myself, whereas the lads took a little longer as they were not as experienced campers. As I was in the tent by myself, there was a bucketload of room. The tents shared 2 ways were a lot better for room - enough for rucksacks (60 litre) to go in the porch, and cooking equipment, without having to re-pack the rucksack - and plenty of space for sleeping. The tents shared 3 ways (all of these lads were over 6 foot tall!) were a little cramped, and ended up having to store some of their equipment in my tent overnight.
Pros: Good value backpacking tent. Ideally suited for two people and very easy to erect with a fair amount of space.
Properly erected, and it rained all night, but not a drop of moisture on the inner tent.
Cons: Certainly not a 3 man tent if you're backpacking - the equipment just wont fit in. Also a little heavier than some other tents - but less than half the price!
