General comments: I originally bought these to get me to crags on weekend trips away, only to end up wearing them on a daily basis. I find them really comfortable, with great cushioning on the heel. I find that I have quite wide feet and the Chameleon Ventilators seem to fit me great!!
As far as approach shoes go they are pretty good, unless its wet. In the dry they are great, good grip, decent tread, and they seem to last. They tread has hardly worn down, and I have been giving them quite a bit of abuse!! In terms of the rest of the shoe that is holding together really well too.
In the wet the soles become really slippy, especially on wet rock. They are also not waterproof, but they are not for that purpose, hence why I also have a pair of hiking boots that I use when its wet.
As an all-rounder I love these approach shoes, comfortable to wear all day long, durable, and they look pretty stylish too, so can wear them around town too
Pros: The biggest pro to these is how comfortable they are, I can wear them all day long, and at the end of the day my feet are fine. They also seem to be really durable too, and really grippy in the dry.
Cons: In the wet the soles can be really slippy especially on wet rocks. Apart from that i have no complaints about my pair, they have served me well.

General comments: These Merrell Ventilator shoes are the latest in along line of Merrell shoes following a similar design pattern. This suggests that people are happy with the look and feel of the shoe, and I admit to have bought about 4 pairs over the last 5/6 years, and I recently bought these. They are an improvement on the last model, whilst still looking good, and keeping the features such as good vibram sole grip in the wet and easy lacing. One problem I have found is the heel area wearing quite quickly. Good ventilation with the Breathable Airflow mesh lining, I have found no problem with feet getting too hot even on a fairly quick ‘approach’. Robust, and Ive never had a problem with the sole separating from the rest of the shoe, which can happen on cheaper makes and used to be a problem with Merrell shoes before the sorted out their act and moved from cheapy shoes to quality a few years back.
The colour shown, and the one I got is Classic Taupe, which is far nicer that the nasty grey. Perfect for hiking on dry rocky conditions like those you find in the height of summer and in the Med, I am off to Corsica and these will be going with me for sure. Not very waterproof, as you might expect.
Pros: Vibram sole
Cons: Heel wears a bit easily

General comments: Hmmm, after constant wear and abuse over a 4 month period these shoes have had their day. Perhpas I can't expect more, but for the price I expected them to last. The heel has worn away and the upper has become mis-shapen and the stitching in parts is coming loose. Like I say, I did give them a fair bit of constant abuse over several months though. Previously, I was happy with the shoe though as it was comfortable and my feet didn't get too hot at all. Obviously they're not waterproof, but they dry fairly quickly if you get them wet (toilet hand driers are a great help here too). Grip wasn't great when they got wet. I found them fine outside on rough ground, but the moment I stepped onto a polished floor (think mall floor or even drain cover) I would slip. A bit of a problem but I learnt to expect it and tread more carefully. Would I recommend these shoes? Not for every day use, no. But, if you're looking for decent shoes for weekend trips or holidays then yes, they are pretty comfy.
Pros: Fit
Cons: Not hard wearing; poor grip in wet
