Vango Sigma 400 Plus Tent Reviews

Reviewed by Miles (The North) on 2009-08-07:
General comments: I was recommended this tent by a friend who uses it for when she works away during the summer. She had give in some serious use and could not fault it. I look around and could not find a similarly geodesic tent for money or quality. I also use it for staying in when away with work and for regular camping trips with my girlfriend. Its layout and design is great for 1 to 2 people to go camping, with the ability to keep there gear inside, use the front pouch as a entrance and shoe store, and the rear to keep food stores and cooking equipment. I have used the tent with heavy rains and wind strength gusting in excess of 35mph and the tent did not collapse or leak, It did flex a lot and was un nerving to start with but after a week we got used to it and where only awoken by the sounds of people retreating to their cars as there tent has collapsed. I have bought angled aluminium tent pegs as the one that came with it where cheap and poor in very soft soils and bent easily in firm to hard soil. The tent bag is over sized so you can fit it in when in a rush to pack up which is a great bonus. It comes with a repair kit to.

Pros: You get a lot for the price, geodesic, lots of room and flexibility with lay out, easy to pack , repair kit, over sized tent bag, water poof and windproof.

Cons: The pegs are cheap and bend, so you have buy new ones. This is no really a problem.

General comments: I have been a 3 season camper for many years. When I was looking to replace my old tent I looked at all sorts of tecnical tents costing several hundred pounds and struggled to find one to suit my needs as a base camp tent. When I visited my local camping outlet last spring 2009 to have a lok at the show tents, the Vango Sigma stood out, partly due to being a windy day and it was the only one not moveing around. I was inpressed by the space and build quality then check the price and was convinced it was a mistake. However bought it and have used it for several long weekends, and three week long trips, right up to a week long trip in mid November in north Wales. This has to be about the best tent I have owned it performed well in wind and long periods of rain and has lots of space. This tent may lack some refinments of more expensive tents but this can be forgiven due to price..So for me if this tent was made of better quality materils for fly, and had better quality ground sheet as weight is not a issue this would be a perfect tent.

Pros: Quick to errect even single handed. Lots of space. Over sized storage bag is usefull. Large porch either end for storage and cooking in poor weather.Great value for money

Cons: No two way zips for ventilation on fly, and only small mesh panel on inner during hot wether. Inner tent can be a little saggy.
