Icebreaker Womens Oasis Crew Reviews

General comments: Really really lovely top. Merino is a great warm baselayer. This top is soft, not scratchy like sometimes wool can still be perceived as, it's warm, but it scrunches up real small when packing/travelling etc. I think this top in particular is great for travelling. Like all the Icebreaker merino clothing it takes a great deal for it to start smelling! Even when it's been worn out walking for a day, and even to smoky pubs, it generally can be hung up for a night and be (almost) good as new the next day. It's also smart enough that it can be worn as both "outdoor" gear or as previously for a night out. Great warmth when layered.
Pros: Lightweight but warm, resists odours, soft and comfortable to wear, classic style and fit.
Cons: Bit pricey - but then probably worth it...

General comments: Normally I am a bit allergic to wool, but not so with this fab Merino. Wore the Icebreaker first on a two-week trip cross-country skiing with husky dog sleds, in Lappland. Initial impression was that it felt cool on the skin compared to polyester, and I was nervous about feeling cold in the consistently sub-zero temperatures, but it soon warmed up. When over-layering with man-made fabrics, I built up far more static than usual, and had to cope with a lot of static discharge when removing outer layers. At first, I changed each evening into something fresh, but found the wool slow to dry in the cold air, so it was easier to dry it on me, which worked well. Didn't get too hot when at a warm fireside. Very little smell after a fortnight. Soft, so can scuff rather easily where base of rucsac rubs. Pleased enough with it to buy another.
Pros: Copes with wide range of temperatures. Nice cosy natural material. Best of all is NO PONG!!
Cons: Static discharge when layered with polyesters. Can get scuffed, but so can polyester. Can be slow to dry in chilly conditions.
