The AK47 is Cruxs flagship rucksack due to its versatility. The AK47-X is basically identical to the AK47, but features a removable, floating adjustable lid instead of a fixed one. Its small enough for short climbs, yet large enough for multi-day routes, and it can easily carry a heavy load of hardwear to the bottom of a route with sufficient comfort. Removable side compression straps allow you to keep everything nice and compact and wand pockets and ice axe holders ensure that the AK47-X has loads of space to store items externally, so that they are close to hand. For many climbers, the extra 5 litres made possible by the adjustable lid make this a more versatile sac than the standard AK47.

General comments: I bought this bag two years ago, and I think its say that its been out more than 400 days in that time. I use it on EXPEDITIONS, I can fit my large winter sleeping bag, carrymat, tent, 3 days food, a change of clothes and my stove inside this bag (ok sometimes I strap the tent poles to the outside). I have taken this bag CLIMBING. It has a narrow profile, doesn't get in the way of your arms or head. I truly amazing material that I have not managed to rip (even climbing chimneys). This bag comes MOUNTAIN BIKING with me. I usually don't fill it, but the compression straps are positioned really well and even with just lunch and layers (have a group member carry the repair kit) I can tighten it all up so there's nothing loose. It also does a good job of keeping moisture out. After a muddy ride a quick hose down, the contents are dry more often than not (maybe don't rely on it).
It comes in different back length sizes, which saves on a whole load of straps and dangley bits. It has an aluminium frame, but you wouldn't guess it by its weight, and has perfectlly perfectly contoured fit on the shoulder and waist straps.
Pros: Very versatile size, super lightweight, amazingly unrippable, waterproof by itself (the exception being the hose), and exceptionally comfortable.
Cons: The removable lid needs re-adjusting from time to time. Meh.
