Wild Country SRC Belay Master Set Reviews

General comments: When I saw that the SRC had no reviews on here I thought I should speak up for it.
I'm a climbing coach and outdoor instructor - so there's probably not a belay device I've not tried. I like the SRC - but it has several important factors to consider:
It's different - by which I mean that a lot of clients and / or partners won't have seen something like it before - I've had several raised eyebrows when I've taken it out of the bag. Also I definitely wouldn't let someone who wasn't very competent belay me with it because...
Whilst the device does lock up very easily (thus offering some fall safety) - a panicked user can easily grab the release lever - which like the issues that used to be raised with GriGri's is often their default action.
Also worth bearing in mind is the rope diameter - out of curiosity I've tried this with an 8.7mm single (and a very competent / strong partner) & it was very difficult to lock - so as a one use item it needs to be matched up with the right kit.
All that said - I do still use it from timer to time - I & my regular wall partner both like it.
A final word on the crab - its a good standard crab - with a much hyped but daft piece of plastic added to it - you'll spend more time looking for it on the floor than you ever will thinking "hey this is a good idea" - because it isn't.
Pros: Very smooth action when you're familiar with it.
Cons: Not good for beginners. Comes with a very daft plastic accessory.
