Take a good look at the new Salomon Quest 4D GTX and you'll recognise the outsole, which is a developement of Salmon's trail running outsole. It gives this boot an excellent ride that takes the wearer close to the ground with a good level of cushioning and stiffness to protect them from the pounding. There is a good depth to the lugs too, and generally this sole unit feels great for a varied mix of terrain. The uppoer is a mix of fabric and suede with a Gore-tex waterproof lining. The toe box has a good rubber rand for extra durability, and there is just about enough stiffness in that toe area to protect the feet from stray boulders.
