General comments: These were instantly comfortable to wear, thanks to a fairly neutral fit and plenty of padding. The ankle cuff was the perfect height for me, and the excellent speed lacing system - which runs over three eyelets - made it easy to get the lace adjustment just right.
Althought heavier than many, the Explorer iv provided plenty of support via the fairl stiff midsole and rugged suede/Ardura upper. Shock absorption was good, making it more comfortable than most on Tarmac or other man-made paths. it also has a good rand. The use of reflective tape is a novel, but practical, touch.

General comments: Great boot for up to 3 seasons. I used these in all conditions, snow, ice, rock and grass, they grip very well and are always warm and corfortable. I can also confirm how waterproof and breathable they are. Great boot for walking into crags too, quick and eay to put on and give plenty of support. Footbed are also very good to taking most of the shock out on long descents.
Pros: Cheap, waterproof, breathable, supportive, warm, good grip, comfy,
Cons: Not crampon compatible.

General comments: I have had a pair of Berghaus Explorers for over a year and love them. They perform in all conditions, from thick mud to ice and snow and have always been able to grip, with the unique adventure sole. If you want a good boot, and a low cost, get these
Pros: These boots are very waterproof, with the Gore-Tex lining, so your feet will not get wet, unless water comes over the top! I have found that they mould to your feet very quickly, after 1 day out on the hills, the insole had my foot imprinted on it. This makes them comfortable straight away, so there is no need to buy superfeet or other insoles that are already fitted to your feet’s ergonomics.
Cons: Despite being comfortable, reasonably prices and durable, I have noticed a few problems that I should point out. Firstly, be warned that Gore-Tex isn’t as breathable as leather, so you will get very sweaty feet sometimes. Secondly, the suede upper is very hard to clean, even with the right cleaning products, so be prepared to spend a lot of time maintaining these boots. Finally, don’t dry quickly, as it will crack the suede upper. I have a small crack from drying the boots in a hot airing cupboard – its far better to dry them outside.

General comments: I bought these boots two years ago just before setting off on a last minute trip to the lakes. I went for these because of the Berghaus name, and the hope they would not need much wearing in.
Since then i have walked hundreds of miles in these boots, and i have to say they are excellent. I always go walking in groups and have never suffered from any blistering while my friends have all succumbed.
Having walked through bogs, streams and in pouring rain whilst wearing these and gaiters i can confirm they are very waterproof due to the Gore-tex lining. However they aren't as breathable an un-lined boots.
If you want decent waterproof boots for not much money, buy these.
Pros: These boots are very comfortable and wear in remarkably quickly. They have also never leaked. The metal Gore-tex logo on the laces is really useful for hooking the Gaiters onto, it means they don't rub and wear out my laces.
Cons: The suede upper gets dirty easily, and they can be quite sweaty in hot conditions.

General comments: These Berghaus Explorer walking boots are excellent quality and price. They are are very light and are water proof and breathable. I have used these boots for the duke of edingburugh and they are perfect for the job. They are very comftable and look good. I also use my walking boots to go and watch my son play football in all weathers and no matter what the weather they have kept my feet warm and dry. When i have been out walking i have walked and climbed up steep enbankments and these boots have griped the floor all the way. The quality of these boots is superb and i would give them a overall rating of 8/10 due to there price quality and performance.

General comments: A decent trail-boot that will take most things thrown at it in its stride. Trainer-like appearence brings comfort out of the box, whilst still providing support. Gore-Tex lining provides waterproofing sufficient for general use plus the occasional dip without excessivly wet socks!
Reflective tape seems a great idea in the box. In reality, stick these boots with a good coating of mud, and a set of Gaiters covering the majority of the tape, and it's real utility is minimal.
Speed lacing system is quick and efficient, although I've noticed that the top hook tends to "slip" when tying the boot off. However once tied, the lacing system serves its purpose well.
However, the tread on this boot is beyond useless. The GTX feels dangerously slippy on tarmac alone, and whilst the thickness copes well with mud and grass. Smooth surfaces such as rock or river beds are a huge challenge for the boot.
The boot provides huge amounts of comfort and versatility for it's price. The trainer-like fit of the boot also means that it can be safely bought over the internet. However it is clear that this boot is a "trail boot" for speed over moderate terrain. Take this boot into a river or onto rock, and the tread will let you down. Use it as it's intended; as a lightweight waterproof trail boot, and it'll be a loyal friend.
Pros: Price
Gore-Tex lining
Lacing system
General rugged construction
Cons: The Tread!
The lacing system finish.
Potential sweaty feet because of the waterproofing

General comments: My Dad bought me these boots recently for my birthday and I was not very happy about it at first- though they surprised me. Although I generally prefer leather boots these were surprisingly comfy once I had worn them in properly and of course you do not have to keep re waterproofing them every few months unlike my leather ones. There is however an issue when water gets in- it is extremely hard to dry them out when on a long expedition because of course though gore-tex keeps water out, when in, it keeps water in. The sole gives very good grip on all terrain and is even sufficient in icy conditions though I am not sure about its shock absorbing qualities- when jumping off drops etc. my legs kill me for five or ten seconds afterwards. These boots also look good and the berghaus brand is always a reliable one. Sizing is quite narrow which is not too good for walkers- most of us have very flat wide feet after pounding them for so long. The ankle is high and offers good support while the lacing system is simple and easy to use though occasionally comes loose for no apparent reason. All in all a very good product for the cost- if you're not going to be using your boots too much but need that gore-tex security when you do, these are the boots for you.
Pros: Comfy, Full Waterproof, Price
Cons: Shock absorbption, poor drying out if water comes in over the top

General comments: I have just bought my second pair of suede/fabric explorers. The first pair lasted 4 years until they started to leak. I may have caused this by drying out very wet boots outside on very hot days. I mainly use the boots on meadows and farm headland and as many will know - wet grass really penetrates.
The boots fit my reasonably wide size 43 perfectly and I find they have the right flex/support balance for my woodland/arable ground.
I find they have good grip on grass/mud/road.
Pros: Waterproofness, fit, flex, support
Cons: As all waterproof membrane can be sweaty on hot wet days

General comments: These boots are a real bargin and from the range of shops you can buy them in, you can see they are popular. The gortex lining is really evident through the life of the product as i have never had wet feet even when wading across streams at least half as deep as the boot. I also like the soles on the boots, as even as they are not vibram, they are a very strong grippy sole with plenty of traction that will last a couple of seasons at least. The great thing about the soles is that they are 90 degrees at the back so they provide one of the best supports when walking down scrambly slopes where you really dig your heals in. The soft fabric of the boot means the take almost no time to break in, ans as with mint, i put them on in the shop and never had any problems since i bought them (touch wood!). One last thing regarding the sole and use of crampons is that the soles are obviously too flexible for crampons which is a great asset when walking as it is this flexibility in the sole that propels you forward. If you have ever tried walking in a pair of hard sole mountain boots, you will realise how much more comfortable the exploor 4's are!!
A great buy for all year round.
Pros: I love the soles of the boots and also, the fabric. the waterproof ness is a great asset when considering getting and outdoor boot. The weight of the boot is very light so can be walked in all day without pulling you leg off. And lastly, the high ancle support means that the ancle is fully protected from strains and sprains when on rocky paths, especailly when done up tightly.
Cons: the only bad point on these boots that i have found is the difficulty in attaching them to gaiters as the bottom lace is protected by a sleve which meand it is difficult to attach the clip of the gaiter to the boot. Having said that, the boot makes it up by having a high arch so there is no way the strap of the gaiter can come out during walking.

General comments: Purchased these boots in September '05. They're a very comfy lightweight boot, and are also very durable. Lots of eyelets make getting the boots tight around the feet and ankles extremely easy. Despite the amount they have been used by me since I first purchased them (Hiking long distances often over 2 or 3 days usually at least once or twice a month) they have maintained the high quality durability and water resistance they had when I got them. As well as hiking they've been used whilst camping and also on worksites in both wet and dry conditions and have always been great and very reliable. The GTX in them is deffinatly noticed as sweating in them is at a very minimum. The best point about them is that I have never once had a blister whilst wearing them. Last October when walking the West Highland Way in Scotland (95 miles over 6 days) the boots faced heavy rain everyday, and kept my feet dry until the 4th or 5th day, not bad for a 2-3 season pair of boots. Sadly they have recently sprung a little bit of a leak in the inside foot of the left boot, this is noticable for me when being out in wet and damp conditions, so for me it is deffinatly time to invest in a new pair for the wetter months. These boots though will deffinatly remain in use by me for dry weather activities as well as for use at work. For the price I paid I am deffinatly pleased as these boots are a reliable and trustworthy piece of equipment.
Pros: Waterproof
Extremely Comfy
Lightweight
Very reasonably priced
Cons: Did eventually develop permanent leak

Pros: Cost, comfort and forget the low level tag associated with these boots, have used them extensively in the Himalayas for tekking and the do the biz.
Cons: Choice of colour would be appreciated otherwise nothing.

General comments: The Berghaus Explorer V are some of the best boots i have ever owned. I bought a pair of these around one and a half years ago and have walked about 800miles in them plus small trips since then. I remember being particularly impressed with the time they took to break in because basicaly it was less than 5 minutes. They are still as comfortable now as they ever were and show no sign of that changing. i have been through several streems in these and they have been perfectly water proof without any treetment. When i have been into water above the ancle and got them wet on the inside i have been very impressed with how quickly the boots have expelled the water and my feet have become dry again, generaly this has tacken about one mile.
Pros: Fit, comfort as mentioned above
Cons: these boots are realy anoying to clean when muddy
