General comments: I have used this harness for 5 years in winter and summer. I bought it because the shop I visited had a hanging point for harness testing and this was the only harness that felt really comfortable in all hanging positions
Pros: It is very light, the high attachment point makes tying in easier in winter when I am wearing lots of clothing. The straps are just long enough for me when I am wearing full body armour in winter, plenty long enough in summer, my waist is 34" and the harness is a good fit for me but anyone larger might have problems in winter
Cons: I do not find the gear loops any use in winter, in summer they are Ok but I normally use a bandolier when leading

General comments: Quite a dated harness that has been around for many years. Much used by groups due to its vast adjustability. Someone of almost any size can fit in the harness, or more importantly it will fit over loads of clothes when in the Alps. (Hence the name.) It was previously in different colours depending on age. Rear strap that holds leg loops up tends to get lost quite easily although is not really needed.
This harness is not very good if you have a big rack due to the poor gear loops. The loops seem a bit flimsy. There are also not enough of them.
The simplicity is its main redeeming point. With so few parts it is easy to tell if it is on right and easy to get sorted around bulky clothes. This harness really does have the bare minimum. For that reason it is light and folds really small. Ideal when weight saving or as a spare harness that is not used much. I have one to lend friends and as a spare incase someone else forgets theirs.
Overall, it is a good harness, very basic but covers all the essentials, but not very comfortable particularly when loaded.
Pros: Simple
Easy to use
Highly adjustable
Cons: Uncomfortable. Dated. Not enough padding

General comments: This is my harness of choice for winter mountaineering and alpine mountaineering. Why? I'll explain. In winter and the alps, you generally tend to wear more clothes, so the need for padding is superfluous, this doesn't have any pading so it ticks box one of my wants. In winter and the alps you do need to cahnge your clothing from time to time, adding or removing layers, this harness allows you to do that in relative safety, so it ticks box two of my wants. In winter and the alps, you're generally climbing with a sack on, so the gear loops at the back are pretty much redundant, you'll be using a bandolier probably, this only has 2 easily accessible gear loops, so it ticks box three of my wants list. In winter and the alps, you'll have enough other kit to carry that you want your harness to be light, that's a tick in box four then. The leg loops open completely so that it's easy to put on with great big winter boots on (even if your feet are size 12), so that's a tick in box five. The belay/tie-in loop is easy to find, always a bonus when your swathed in layers, bandoliers, slings & rucksack, tick box 6. It's perfect, end of story.
Pros: Simple, light, cheap.
Cons: None, if you're buying it to use for its intended purpose of alpine and winter mountaineering

General comments: The DMM Alpine is a great multi-use harness, sporting a low price tag along with low weight and surprisingly good comfort. I've used it for indoor, sport, trad, alpine summer and winter, scottish winter and ski-touring, and have yet to run into any real problems. There is plenty of space in the leg loops meaning it's no problem to pop on and off, whether you're wearing rock shoes, mountaineering boots or ski boots. With two gear loops you're a bit pressed for space and it requires some extra thought when racking up, but should do fine for most of your protection needs, especially if being used in the alpine or winter mountaineering environment, for which it is designed. It's not padded and so is certainly not a harness in which you'd like to spend a long time sitting, so if you're looking for a dedicated sport harness, look elsewhere, and the same if you need a lot of racking space. However, if you want a harness you can wear for extended periods, you can't do much better in terms of comfort, weight and durability than the DMM Alpine. A great bit of kit for beginners and seasoned mountaineers alike, perfect for alpine and winter mountaineering uses.
Pros: Cheap, light weight, somewhat comfortable.
Cons: Little racking space, no padding.

General comments: A simple good value harness if slightly odd and sometimes cheese wire like. The name matches its ideal usage I guess...
The harness is better suited to winter use when it needs to be worn on top of waterproof pants. The extra clothing gives comfort and the harness is very easy to put on waist belt first, then simply clip in the leg loops.
The simplicity means there isn't anything to go wrong or loose off it.
For summer/sport climbing its not ideal.
Pros: Ideal winter/alipine, lightweight, cheap, simple, fast to put on.
Cons: Uncomfy with less clothes on, odd attachment point.

General comments: This harness is excellent for use as an alpine harness for all the reasons listed by the other contributors. I would like to add that this harness also makes an excellent spare harness, for example if you are taking novice or kitless friends out with you due to its adjustability. I also take this harness with me on scrambles and walks where I carry a confidence rope as it is so light and bundles up so small that its worth stuffing in your rucksack for good measure, even if you dont end up using it.
Pros: Adjustable, light, compact and simple.
Cons: None, other than you have to be particularly vigilant with novice users due to the leg loops having the facility to open fully.
