   Berghaus Deluge Pant Reviews

General comments: These are good entry level Waterproof Trouser. I have been using these trousers for about a year. They are very waterproof and very reliable. You will be able to wear these all day in the rain without getting soaked. The waistband can be tightned with the elastic on it and overall for the price, you cannot go wrong with these.

Pros: The price, the performance. And very easy to put on and off!

Cons: Could do with belt loops or a better system of tightning the trousers around the waist.

m.kilshaw responded : I bought these pants in may when i was walking in scotland just because of the price. They come in handy as well they were put through aheavy torrent of rain with the side zips open i stayed nice and dry with air to reach the legs. so easy to get in to but don't think much of the tension you get on the draw cord the only other problem is first time you put them on you may find they are on back to front (2008-07-04)

General comments: Cheap, waterproof, breathable, good long zips up the side for easy access, light weight. What more do you expect.

Pros: very breathable, I used these for winter climbing and even after a fast walk in with a ~500m ascent I was still dry inside.

Cons: not as tough as some models, but at half the price of the competitors you can't moan.

General comments: Good entry level waterproof overtrousers, that are light enough to leave in your day pack just in case they are needed. Long side zips with double sided stormflaps make the trousers very easy to get on and off. When worn over the top of a pair of Mountain Equipment G2 pants I didn't find them very breathable. But I think I might invest in a serious pair of overtrousers for those sort of conditions

Pros: Long side zips with double sided stormflaps

Cons: Very difficult to get sufficient tension in the waist band. Would be better with braces or a belt, rather than the elasticated cord. No zip fly, so a loo stop means having to pull down the waistband - which is fiddly, cold and annoying in the torrential rain of a welsh downpour in Snowdonia.

General comments: The majority of times these stay stuffed at the bottom of my rucksack, and I think the pack size is reasonable small which is useful. For some reason i've always spent alot more money on the jacket than the pants and it is the same with these. I've not spent a full day out in the rain but they have kept me dry in anything I have encountered (the worst being 3-4 hours of continuous heavy rain). I like the fit because I was able to get a medium waist but with a long leg. However I don't find them very breathable and warmer conditions they can get a little sweaty inside. The fabric also doesn't feel very durable so wouldn't recommend for people who do lots of scrambles. But thee are about 1/3 the price of any gore tex or event pants which is a definate bonus. They are definatly very good for the price.

Pros: Price Full length zip makes them alot easier to put on. Then zip is reinforced by clip buttons to reduce leakage through the zip. Reasonably small pack size.

Cons: Although I haven't damaged mine yet they don't seem very durable. Fabric isn't as breathable as more expensive options.

General comments: You get what you pay for. Not always. I chose the Berghaus Deluge waterproof pants simply because they were the only ones I could find that provided the obvious - the simply fact the legs unzip up to the hip and the price was reasonable too. I don't see the point in waterproof pants with leg zips that don't extend beyond the knee - why make it so difficult to get them on or off when wearing clumpy walking/hiking/climbing boots? Especially so when everything is wet/muddy or getting wet/muddy. Not only do the Deluge pants provide full length zips they also offer buttons up each leg so you can button them up rather than close the zipper and this offers sometimes much needed ventilation whilst keeping the water out. Fully closing the zippers is really only necessary in a deluge (oops!). In the Scottish Highlands I wear my Deluge pants even when it's not raining, when walking across moorland and though heather, vegetation, etc ...

Pros: Full length leg zippers make putting on and taking off so much easier. Buttons down each leg offer ventilation whilst keeping out light rain. They are pretty tough for the price - I wore mine glissading down a Munro and they survived. Lightweight. Waterproof.

Cons: None I have found so far.
