Grivel Nepal Steel Plus Reviews

General comments: I try to get out in all year round and make frequent trips up to Sctoland and over to france to try to get some walks in on some of our ever decreasing snow. I dont class myself as a full-on mountaineerer but i do get to play about in areas where there is the potential for really hurting yourself if your not equiped and know what your doing. The Grivel Nepal axe has been my trusty companion for a number of years now and is a permenant addition to my rucsac during the months of November through to March. The axe comes in almost every size you need so there will be a length to suit all - make sure you get the right size!!. This is a walking axe so comes in quite long lengths (mine is 60cm), is is not curved as its not designed purely for ice climbs although i have used mine on very easy grades once or twice. The shaft has a rubber section which aids gripping the axe with winter gloves on, and you get a grivel leash to secure the axe to you incase you take a tumble.
On my axe the nice shinny balck coating started to come away pretty quickly but hey, thats expected i suppose. the quality of the axe is fantastic, the axe head and pick are drop forged in one piece and the adze is then welded to it so this should last me a lifetime. good value and good design if its what you want. An essential winter tool
Pros: Price, Quality, essential bit of winter kit
Cons: wear on shaft
