Raichle's Mountain Trail XT improves on the standard features of the Mountain Trail GTX hiking boot to create a more advanced technical backpacking boot for more demanding expeditions. The Mountain Trail XT's upper is made from full grain leather for superior comfort and durability, offering better resistance to abrasion and general wear. Raichle has also added a rubber toe rand for extra protection from loose rocks on the trail. This full leather version still features the Vibram* sole for increased support and easier walking, plus the Gore-Tex lining to ensure a high level of waterproofing and breathability that will increase your comfort when on the move. The Mountain Trail XT GTX has an integrated stiffened insole to provide more stability on uneven terrain and when carrying a backpack, helping you to walk with more confidence. | Site | Price | Postage | Total |

General comments: When you are looking for a boot that not only offers tuff and flexable wearing but gore-tex and motion control this has to be the boot for you. The extra rand around the toe is solid and the feel when wearing them is without doubt the best ive had in a long time, ive already walked Cairngorm, Torridon and Bhuachaille including the damp forest trails of glenmore and Abernethy this winter and they really hold up to what ever the weather and terrain throws at them. Because of the the motion control and the fit of the boot, you can wear them straight from the box, i did my feet were cool and no rubbing or any sign of blisters and my feet didnt sweat, ive used them for two months now and they still look and feel great so much so im heading back out on the hill soon as possible. Ok sure they are not stiff enough to hold crampons so ice climbing is out but there not as heavy ether so you can wear them 3 season if you wish.
Pros: For the price these boots out perform most other boots on the market and look much better to. Totaly bomb proof best purchase of 2006/2007.
Cons: Well if your hardcore the lack of crampon compatibility may stop you but you will miss out and hey the climate is changing so who needs crampons any way.

Paul Weeks responded : Completely agree. I wore a pair straight from the box for a week hiking in snow and ice around Ben Nevis and Knoydart, followed by another week up near Ullapool. My feet were warm and dry throughout, there wasn't a hint of a blister, and they took a hiking crampon very securely. There's lots of cunning design features, like the double tongue, and they are wonderfully light for a winter boot. Highly recommended. (2007-01-15)

General comments: Bought in July 2007 for £130 - Brown leather version. These are rock solid 3/4 season boots. Excellent manufacturing standard - Gore-Tex lined, single piece leather upper, very aggressive vibram sole with nice big toe rand.
So far they have served me well on a dozen munro and corbett bagging trips, and they excel over some boots in functioning well through Scottish boggy terrain where there waterproof qualities are fully tested.
Because of the rolling action they are also pretty reasonable at coping with flat terrain, forest walks and landrover type tracks.
Fit tends to be on the large side and for me I require superfeet and a larger sock to get a perfect fit.
I treat on as needed basis with a gentle wash and nikwax application, and the boot still looks pretty good, despite the odd scramble. Pretty tough.
Pros: Perfect for Munro-bagging Spring/Autumn/Winter. To me their a classic for this activity. I think they would take a C1 rated crampon but have yet to test.
Cons: Quite Heavy at around 1.6kg a pair. The Gore-Tex liner also means that they can run hot and I would not recommend them as a summer walking boot. Fit out of the box was good and I experienced no blisters, although I have fitted more supportive superfeet insoles as the supplied insole is quite flat. I've purchased a pair of Keen Targhee Mid II's and some montrail trail shoes for summer use and long distance trekking.
Please note there have been a few people with bad experiences regarding the logevity of these boots but in I have no bad experiences.
