General comments: I used to live in Mountain Hardwear Pack Pants, which are sensational, but they were on their way out when I got these babies and there is no going back. These trousers are fabulous. The stretch fabric makes them sooo comfortable, yet they are tough, durable trousers. The stretch is not of the leg clinging lycra type, just a gentle stretch when you bend over or bring your leg up etc. Nice.
I like the extra inch on the leg length which makes these Apex trousers fit tall, skinny mincers like me perfectly. The pockets are a good size and a handy phone pocket on the leg keeps my mind at rest about my mobile's wearabouts.
They've got two hand pockets in the usual place plus two zippered map size pocket on the front thigh panel. Not sure I'd put a map in there but the extra handy storage is useful, without going overboard and looking like some fully cargoed up paratrooper. There's an extra zip pocket on the bum about the size of er.. my girlfriend's hand. Also zips on the bottom of the legs most of the way to the knee to allow them to be pulled on over shoes. They also have elasticated drawcords on the leg hems to cinch them in tight, which I've found useful mostly when I've been trying to keep them out of the chainrings when cycle commuting or popping down the shop.
They're supposed to be water resistant, but perhaps that came off the first time they went through the washing machine, however, the fabric doesn't hold moisture easily so they dry quickly.
Pros: Stretchy, tough, comfortable, great size, look good, supposedly water resistant, leg zippers
Cons: Geez...er none! They're great

General comments: I owned a pair of these, but sold them for a zip-away trouser. I didn't like these very much, and now trek in US army issue combat pants. Much more breathable, and with better pockets. I look silly, but am very comfotable.
Pros: Style. These are good-looking.
Cons: No zip=away legs, not very breathable.

General comments: The Apex trekking pants are a nice bit of kit. The Apex Aerobic material is a soft-shell material that has a high breathability. This makes them ideal for active wear, as they will stand up to the weather, and keep you dry on the inside. Apex material as a soft-shell is exclusive to TNF, but if you’re a mad gore-tex fan then don’t worry, its just as good! The fit on the trouser is excellent, being shorter in the leg. Note this if you have long legs. The shorter leg prevents mud and water rubbing up the inside leg, and getting it caught on fences and walls. I have found them comfortable, warm and hard wearing. I have actually used them for gardening this winter, so I don’t think they will wear out. The only fault is that I find the soft-shell material a bit stiff. I know this sounds strange, but I have always been used to wearing the faithful Ron Hills. I think this is just a personal thing, and generally I am very pleased with the pants. Go get some.
Pros: Everything really. The cost is a good point, as they are about £60 in most shops
Cons: Hope you like soft shell. i am still getting used to it!

General comments: I had been looking for a pair of windproof and stretchy trousers for walking for some time and had tried a number of pairs, usually finding them too tightly cut and/or too long in the leg. On the other hand, the apex pant is neatly cut without being embarrassing in the pub afterwards and the leg length suits my squat frame. There are four pockets, all zippable, with the one on the right leg taking a full OS map. This feature is not commonly found on most trousers, and amazingly it also manages to carry a map without feeling uncomfortable. The hem has some slightly sticky material which keeps the hem firmly around the ankle. You can also get the trousers over your shoes by unzipping up the lower leg, although I’m not sure why you would want to. The waistband is only lightly elasticated and trousers don’t come with a belt, which is a curious omission. Finally the fabric is very comfortable to wear. It has 4 way stretch and the trousers don’t ever hinder movement. Apex is reasonably wind resistant although I would not say it was wind-proof. However the most disappointing feature is the water-resistance. I had spent a little more than planned assuming that the fabric would be fairly water resistant and could cope with light showers. The DWR finish repels splashes or spillages, but a light spray for even a short time wets out the fabric quickly. In this regard, apex compares very unfavourably with gore-tax windstopper or pertex, however possibly the stretchiness comes at the expense of loss of water resistance. Would I buy them again? Maybe in the sale, but not at £80.
Pros: Stretchyness and not too tight
Cons: Not very water repellant. Expensive
