General comments: The North Face Vapor Light is a good versatile shoe - I wear mine both as regular trainers and running up Arthur's Seat and around Edinburgh's Holyrood Park. They work well on both pavement and path, and OK on rock when it's dry. They are not the best thing for actual fell running, as the sole has worn pretty quickly and is really little more than a glorified road sole. I suppose those who swear by their Walshes have a point. However as a running shoe the Vapor Light wins by a margin over vibram hybrids like the Merrell Chameleon, which is as flexible as a walking boot. The Vapor Light has a wider platform than my old TNF Electric Passes, and I've noticed the benefit on uneven ground - I'm much less likely to turn an ankle. Not much toe protection, so again not suited for rocky slopes. They are a nice weight, and the uppers well designed - breathable mesh and adjustable lacings mould to the foot readily and well. To bear in mind if replacing an older TNF shoe - the Vapor Light is a tighter fit than the same size Electric Pass, so try them on first.
Pros: Well suited for on/off road use, lighter than many trail runners, mesh uppers give good fit.
Cons: Not much to set them apart from general running shoes, probably not suitable for fell running.
